NextThe role of trust and contracts in the internationalization of technology-intensive Born Globals
1 Citation
Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Vol. 25, No. 1-2. ( 2008), pp. 123-135.The purpose of this paper is to study the roles of trust and contracts in technology-intensive Born-Global firms (BGs). By definition these firms compete in the area of knowledge and cutting-edge innovation, use external resources, and internationalize at inception or soon thereafter. For entering global markets successfully, these firms typically need partners. However, attracting them requires disclosing critical knowledge, and thus BGs encounter the risk of losing their potential competitive advantage. Their global business environment is very competitive and dynamic, therefore traditional ways of operating may be too time-consuming to manage these risks. Consequently, we argue that for technology-based BGs, the role of trust and contracts are closely intertwined. The paper puts forward three propositions that highlight the roles of trust and contracting for technology-intensive BGs.Kirsimarja Blomqvist, Pia Hurmelinna-Laukkanen, Niina Nummela, Sami Saarenketo,

Strategizing throughout the Organization: Managing Role Conflict in Strategic Renewal
1 Citation
The Academy of Management Review, Vol. 25, No. 1. (2000), pp. 154-177.Strategic renewal consists of three subprocesses (competence definition, deployment, and modification). Within each subprocess, the roles of top-, middle- and operating-level managers differ in their time horizon, information requirements, and core values. Dissensus in managers' perceptions about the need for change creates strategic role conflicts within individual managers and between managerial roles. In this article we explain when and where strategic role conflict occurs and how organizational controls may be used to alleviate it.Steven Floyd, Peter Lane,

Admission to care: facilitating role transition amongst family carers.
1 Citation
J Clin Nurs, Vol. 6, No. 6. (November 1997), pp. 443-451.Admission to care after a period of family care-giving has been the focus of much recent research. Rather than being seen as an end in itself, admission is part of a process. This article concentrates on 'reaching the end' of family care-giving and the 'new beginning' of entering residential care. A cross-national study conducted in the USA and the UK is discussed, and similarities and differences in the two cultures are highlighted. Decisions to enter a nursing home were often taken hurriedly and with lack of information in both countries. Issues of quality of care and emotional responses by former carers were also important in both settings.C Dellasega, M Nolan,
